A few weeks ago my colleague Chris Lasher gave a biologist's perspective of working for 5AM. I came to 5AM with no background in biology but I'm choosing to stay with a company that has figured out how to recruit great engineers, and knows how to get the absolute best work from them. These excellent results keep 5AM's clients extremely satisfied, and getting this output has nothing to do specifically with biology.
Flexibility
First and foremost, I work in an environment that is more flexible than any of my previous employers. Fixed hours are not demanded. Whether I choose to work at the office or from home, I am provided with the tools and foundation to stay as productive as possible. 5AM offers a benefits package well beyond the norm. These are the elements that help fit work into life's demands.
Process
Great flexibility means little without a great engineering process. 5AM is fully invested in Agile practices. Continuous integration, automated testing, static code analysis, and rapid delivery are all well established at 5AM. Engineers even receive ScrumMaster certification training! These are the factors that help 5AM put software quality first, and our clients notice.
Support
What would solid engineering be without fantastic management support? 5AM’s management helps ensure that code quality is not sacrificed in order to deliver faster. The folks who communicate with our clients never fail to set the right expectations. Our clients come to know that quality software does take time, and of course that 5AM will deliver on quality!
